It is probably no secret that I am really trying to be more mindful about everything in my life. Especially, the things that make up my home.
Mornings are one of the busiest and most stressful times or can be during the week. So, I am slowly adding little life hacks to make mornings just a little easier on myself and my family.
Normally, I wake up before everyone else. I may do a little cleaning, drink some coffee, get distracted by the news, do a little meditation, and consider exercising. Then I move meal prep, diaper bag check, and getting everyone ready. Well, a big chunk of my meal prep is done in advanced as discussed in my last post. Meal Prep – Productivity
Seriously, this has been a game changer in my house. A lot of stress in the morning trying to determine what to throw in the crockpot or not even doing it. Less stress at night and A LOT less eating out. Another great bonus is that there is less clean up at night – pretty much loving the extra dose of time I get back from that. So much energy!
Lunch is also now covered. Leftovers are saved from the night before and packaged in mason jars. Easy to grab and go for lunch. OR I pre-make tacos and other quick meals. These are wrapped and frozen to microwave for lunch.
We left out the most important part of our day. Breakfast. Now, when I think of self-care. I do not think of it as this privilege that I would like to add into my schedule. It is something that I NEED to do to keep myself healthy and working for my family. It is a non-negotiable. It does not have to take a lot of time.
Back to Breakfast. Part of my self-care routine is trying to eat relatively healthy. If I do not prep my meals and I am very guilty of falling into the trap of grabbing something on the go. Costly for my wallet and my body. I do have a nasty habit of either doing that or forgetting to eat all together – until I realize I feel AWFUL. This is an energy killer right there!
So, I started making overnight oats EVERY Sunday. It literally only takes me 10 minutes. You can prioritize yourself first for 10 minutes and pre-make your breakfast for the week. Yes, it takes just as good Monday as it does on Friday.
Really, the whole family can eat these simple recipes. They are healthy for everyone!
Now, I have tried many recipes myself. But this one I doctored up and make into a little fall, indulgent tasty morning treat. It is fairly healthy, packed with protein, and keeps you full all morning!
Another actionable item that makes this process just a little more efficient and easier is my refrigerator organization process. Simplify Your Refrigerator and product offering Motivation in a Box – Refrigerator Organization.
You know you want to try this 10 minute little secret?
I take a large mixing bowl and add in the following ingredients.
1 large container of Chobani Vanilla Greek Yogurt
2 cups of Steel Cut Oats
1 cup Chia seeds
1 – 2 scoops Protein Powder
2 tbs of Honey
2 tbs of Vanilla Extract or to taste
1/4 cup of Almond Milk
1/2 cup of Sun Butter – you can use peanut butter or other substitute. We have a peanut allergy in our home.
2 cups of your choice of berries – I used strawberries and blueberries. You can use fresh or frozen.
2 bananas chopped
2 tbs of cinnamon
Mix it all up and divide into serving containers. Again, I use Mason jar. This recipe makes about 5-7 servings.
Super simple, indulgent and really worth it. Reclaim your ability to say YES to yourself. Self-care is not a privilege for moms. It is a necessity of life.
